What's training really worth?

I have two kids who are fast approaching High School Graduation and the oldest will be a Junior this year. I've asked around for advice on taking the ACT and SAT exam and a friend passed along the name of a private tutor. I called the tutor yesterday and much of what she said struck a very familiar chord. She said, "I give students confidence" ... "I help them practice" ... "I focus their studies" ... "I give them tips for each of the exams". Although I was not happy with the $900 price for 12 private lessons, I do realize the value given. When you take a training class, whether it be for ACT prep, NICET exams or some other accredidation, you are paying for experience.

The ACT prep tutor offers the knowledge and experience and student feedback that she has been gathering for years. We here at Fire Tech have been helping students pass their NICET exam for over 20 years. We have learned a few tricks along the way and we still continue to learn every day.

So I asked myself, "Do we need the ACT prep?" While I'm still debating that question, I know for a fact that the prep will be more concise, more focused and the study time will be spent in the correct areas. My daughter and I can search the internet and find lots of resources and use them. I'm sure some of them will be good and others probably not so much. So then you get down to, "What is your time worth?" If you are focusing time and energy on training tools that you are not sure of, are you gaining the confidence you need? Confidence in taking these tests is a HUGE factor.

Bottom Line - The more you practice, the more you know, the more confident you are and the better you will do on the exam. A good training program sets you up for success. Once you start, you know you are on the right path and then it's just a matter of studying and not wondering IF you are studying the correct information.

Enjoy July!

Sprinkler Head

Most of the deaths that occurred in the MGM Grand fire were a result of smoke inhalation of toxic fumes. The hotel had smoke dampers that were not functioning inside of the ventilation ducts; consequently, the toxic fumes entered into the main hotel circulation system and spread the fumes throughout the entire hotel.
